Happy Earth Day! Here are our picks for this weekend’s activities!
Friday: Dress up in your best ’50s outfit and head to the Reels and Wheels Public Art Dedication and Block Party in front of the Hiland Theater, 4800 Central Ave. SE. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with food trucks, 50s style music, a hula hoop contest and roller derby girls serving slices of pie. A special movie showing of “Cars” will begin at 5:30 p.m. inside the historic theater.
Friday: Earth Day Celebration on Civic Plaza from 5 pm to 8 pm with music, electronics recycling, kids crafts, food trucks and local microbrews. Family friendly.
Saturday: La Montanita Co-Op’s 26th Annual Earthfest Celebration will be in full swing by 10 am with art, music, food and much more. It’s best to walk or bike to this event due to limited parking options.
Saturday: Sam’s Club on Renaissance Blvd. is hosting an electronics recycling event on Saturday, April 23rd from 9 AM to 1 PM. Modest fees apply to some items and data destruction services are available (for example to ensure a hard drive with information on it is destroyed). No TVs will be accepted during this event.
